Justification of topic choice
Why THEY?
In recent years, there has been a significant shift in the way we think about gender. Many people are beginning to realise that gender is not just about being male or female. This new understanding highlights the existence of non-binary individuals - those who don't identify strictly as either male or female. I want to make a documentary that focuses on non-binary people because I think it's important to promote awareness and understanding of gender diversity, which is increasingly important in today's society.

Firstly, our world is full of a wide range of identities and ways in which people express who they are. As we engage with diverse communities, it is important to educate ourselves about different gender identities and the unique experiences that come with them. Non-binary people may identify as a mix of male and female, as neither, or as moving between genders. Their story challenge us to rethink our conventional ideas about gender. By presenting this story in a documentary, I hope to provide a platform for non-binary voice and encourage viewers to adopt a more accepting view of gender. In addition, my personal connections with non-binary friends further inspire my choice of subject matter. Through my interactions with them, I have begun to understand the many layers of their experiences. These include both obstacles and successes.
However, I've noticed that some of my classmates are unfamiliar with the concept of being non-binary. This lack of knowledge can lead to misunderstanding and stigma. By creating this documentary, I hope to deepen my understanding of my friends' experiences and help inform others who may have similar gaps in their knowledge. Education is key to breaking down prejudice and promoting acceptance. Many people may not even be aware that non-binary identities exist, let alone understand the specific challenges non-binary people face.
My documentary aims to fill this knowledge gap through interviews and personal stories. By showcasing real experiences and insights from experts, I hope to encourage empathy and thoughtful discussion, and encourage viewers to re-evaluate their own beliefs about gender. My documentary about non-binary people is driven by a sincere commitment to promote understanding and awareness of gender diversity.
The combination of my personal connections, the changing landscape of our society and the need for education form a solid foundation for this project. By highlighting the lived experiences of non-binary individuals, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive environment where all gender identities are recognised and celebrated.
Ultimately, this project is not just about creating a film; it is about initiating a broader conversation that promotes acceptance and understanding in an increasingly diverse world.
